The last several months have been a period of transition for Lake Marcel Community Club. Thanks to those community members who have stepped up since the call for help in the Fall 2014 newsletter, the change has been positive on the whole.
The LMCC Board of Directors now numbers nine, including new and returning members. Special thanks go to Jon Hoyer, who served as acting president for six months and continues in the roles of vice president, webmaster/email administrator and community relations committee chair. Newly elected directors have taken on key positions, including John Gorman as secretary, Laura Davis as events committee chair, and Rob Lee as safety and security committee chair.
After serving several years as treasurer and as maintenance committee chair, Dan Giluck has decided to pass these responsibilities to other directors. Thank you, Dan, for your faithful service in these critical positions of leadership. Russ Adelson has taken over as maintenance committee chair. Dan Gutschmidt has been appointed to fill a board vacancy and has been elected as the new treasurer.
Our neighbor Laura Mills has filled the LMCC Coordinator position, and already she is making a difference. Laura has been working diligently on interim and long-term maintenance contracting activities for LMCC, subject to maintenance committee and board approval, to ensure the duties of our former groundskeeper will be performed most cost-effectively going forward. She is also helping the maintenance and events committee chairs by coordinating the activities of volunteers in their areas of responsibility.
In addition to the recent developments noted above, let’s recognize the continuing efforts of two key contributors. Allan Culverwell chairs the architectural review committee and the fisheries, water quality and aquatic weed control committee. I see Allan on his boat regularly on Sundays, collecting water samples and taking readings to help ensure the ongoing health of the lake. Angie Ward has served as our office manager since 2006. Angie keeps LMCC operating and is an inspiration to all of us.
In response to interest shown at the last membership meeting, and to accommodate the greater number of directors now serving on the board, we have adopted a new venue for routine board meetings. Since the LMCC office is not big enough to hold the anticipated number of attendees comfortably, we now conduct board meetings in the larger meeting room at the Carnation Fire Station. Board meetings are held every two months or more often as needed. The next one is scheduled for April 28. Check our website for the latest schedule.
We’ll talk about these and other items of interest to the Lake Marcel community at the upcoming general membership meeting on May 3 at the Duvall Fire Station. I hope to see you there.
In closing, I want to thank our volunteer Board of Directors and all of the other LMCC members who consistently donate their time and labor as volunteers in various capacities. You make Lake Marcel a wonderful place to live.
John Held
